Orange Runners Club - News.
No time to smell the flowers.
The Colour City Running Festival is on tomorrow. After much hard work from a lot of people all is looking like it will be a great event. Entries are up on this time last year. Just a couple of last minute reminders. If you or someone you know still hasn’t entered there’s still time. You can enter today between 11am and 2pm at Bloomfield Country Club at the starting line or tomorrow between 6am and 7am. I know that sounds like an early start but remember the half marathon starts at 7.30am.
The weekend of the 13&14th March is the Relay for Life and we still need more names for our team. So if you can spare an hour or two please contact Trish Frost on 0400405778 or see her at one our run this weekend and she will arrange a time with you.
A reminder that the Annual General Meeting will be held early April and we will have a date shortly after our run this weekend. Registrations will be due right after the meeting. You will need to pay your registration fees for the next twelve months if you wish to keep enjoying our great club.
Arriving at the run at Gosling Creek last Sunday we were greeted with the news that our handicapper Michael Sharp had been taken ill. We wish Michael a complete and speedy recovery. Our thoughts are with Michael. But this is a timely reminder to all of us in the club just how much we rely on Michael for his expertise and the unforgiving job he does for us all. We take it for granted when we just turn up and run and leave all the results in his very capable hands. It wasn’t till after Sundays run that I realised just how difficult we make this job for him. On the results sheet there were numbers without a name next to it. There were names but no distance against them. I know Michael is very good but he is not a mind reader. It’s time we got behind him and made his job a little easier. All we have to do is put our name against the number we are given and also the distance we have run (not too difficult I’m sure). With a membership stretching to almost 400 these little things will make his enormous job a little easier and hopefully he won’t have to burn the midnight oil anymore. We are very fortunate that Michael has come out Hospital in Sydney and would you believe it he is back at his trusty computer and has got the results up for us this week. Had he not been well enough we would not have any results because of the issues mentioned above.

Two great PB were set on Sunday they were Jane Fairgrieve with a 2 min 10 second PB and Chris Moran with a 1min 20 second PB and Chris was also the Winner on the day.
Wednesday saw an amazing 109 runners finishing the 3km handicap run in fine conditions although a little windy. Winner was Barry Swain and there were three PD’s recorded. They were Noah Lamrock with a PB of 4min 30 sec, Jake Machin 45 second PB and Steve Johansson 6 Second PB.
The persistence of Brian Penrose paid off when he achieved a minestone of running 1km without stopping.
So good luck everyone on Sunday, whether you are a runner, walker, or organiser have a great day and enjoy our fantastic Running Festival in our beautiful City.
